In November of 2006
Unfriendly and I drove down to Palm Bay to have our first Thanksgiving in about 7 years with his folks. Of course, I needed a project to knit while being there. I decided to try my hand at this poncho pattern,
One Baaad Poncho. The thought was to knit something up in time to send for my mom for Christmas.
It is now June.
I am one REALLY SLOW knitter
I picked up some TLC yarn at the local Hobby Lobby for this baaad endeavor. My mom likes pinks and reds so I decided upon
Rose and Claret.I'm not usually one to stick to a pattern all the time. I decided that I would improvise with two colors and see where the knitting journey would take me.
By February, I had gotten this far.

Pumpkin puts in her 2.5 cents
The knitting is in the way of MY LAP. Human, I require my lap.
This is what it looked like before seaming one of the short edges to one of the longer sides. I didn't quite take into account how curly stockinette stitch truly is, but it is what the pattern called for.

Since the pattern called for doing a single crochet along the neckline and hem to help with the curling, I decided to try a single crochet to seam the piece together. I like the way it came out with the claret as the main color down the front. Oh, and may I introduce you to my mannequin, Annie. She reminds me a bit of Annie Lennox, ergo ...

My mom is a bit fussy about rolly collars. She's a bit OCD too, so I figured, though it looked fine as above, she might want something a bit different. I'd been itching to try some of the edgings in my
Knitting On the Edge book, so I tried one of the lace patterns that produced a scalloped edge and joined the piece the the neckline to make a collar.
This is how looked before blocking

The single crochet only helps so much with the curling. You can't tell but the claret edges on the body have the ligher rose single crocheted edge. Here it is after blocking.

This is what the back looks like.
Knit In! And Update!
Monday, February 05, 2007
One of
Unfriendly's co-worker buddies invited him to a Super Bowl party on Sunday. I'll be attending with knit bag in tow to participate in a
Knit In organized by DIY Network's Vickie Howell. Super Bowl Sunday?
Super Knit Sunday!The charity,
Warm Up America,
is actually based near FormerBlondieā¢'s neck of the woods. I'm a slow knitter so we'll see how many knitted 7"x9" rectangles I actually knit up.
Speaking of knitting, this is how far I've gotten with my
One Baaad Poncho attempt

Of course...this may be why I've only gotten so far. I often have "help" when I break out the knitting.

It's a knitted I-Cord (five stiches)
knit on 1.0.5 needles using varigated yarn. I knitted it while watching National Disaster...I mean..National Treasure. Here are some shots with and without my kitties. So far, they love it. It's a bit snagged already
To make version shown below I used Red Heart Kids Multi
Looped End:Cast on five stitches. Make I-Cord until first loop is as big as you want it. Bind off until there is one stitch left. Place ends together and connect by picking up one or two stitches on and cast on remaining 2 or 3 stitches by knitting on (or whatever cast on you prefer).
Repeat this process for as many loops you want to make for your kitty.
When you're happy, keep knitting the I-cord until it's as long as you'd like it to be.
Handle:Switch from making an I-cord to knitting garter ridges until the handle is comfortable enough for you. Bind off and sew to I-cord.

Dragon Scale Washcloth Redux

Behold! The picture of the dragon scales in daylight! Eureka! Much different than
the mood lighting picture.
Baby blanket swatches
My friend Sameena, the friend I've known for the longest time, is pregnant with her first. Just seems like yesterday that we were little kids playing in the sprinklers and getting into mischief. I've decided to knit her some blankets for her little girl. Here are the gauge swatches.

Dragon Scale Washcloth
So, I've finally settled a bit in Alpharetta, GA and discovered a local yarn store called
Only Ewe and Cotton Too. I also made sure to get a library card on the same day I went yarn shopping. I found this book

which has a neat pattern for a dragon scale washcloth.
Here is how far along I've gotten. Click on the pic for more detail.

It's knit in Plymouth Yarn's Linen Isle and it's a dark beige / taupe mix. Picture in daylight to come soon!
